Emily Askin, Ph.D.
Dr. Askin has over 20 years of experience in the field of cognitive impairment and developmental learning disorders. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gettysburg College in 1991 and earned an MA in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University in 1993. After working for a few years as a Learning Disabilities Specialist, she went to the University of Rhode Island where she earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology in 2001. Her doctoral dissertation was specific to the area of reading disorders and was funded by a grant from Haskins Laboratories at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Dr. Askin completed two separate doctoral internship programs; one in school psychology in the Westport, CT public schools and the other in pediatric neuropsychology at New York University School of Medicine/North Shore University Hospital (NYU/NSUH). She also completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology, again at NYU/NSUH.
Dr. Askin has worked in private schools for children with learning disorders, public schools, as well as inpatient and outpatient psychology departments in several hospital settings. For the past 10 years, Dr. Askin has worked at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in downtown Philadelphia with patients who have had a traumatic brain injury, stroke, encephalopathy, seizure disorders and cancer. Dr. Askin is licensed to practice psychology in both Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. She is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society, National Academy of Neuropsychology and the American Psychological Association, and the Philadelphia Neuropsychological Society.
Dr. Askin lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children, and her unruly but lovable dog, Blaze.
